News and Announcements

 Dear Theater Fans,

On October 23rd, the San Gabriel Valley Music Theatre in partnership with the San Gabriel Mission Playhouse will be presenting the first night of our Broadway Locker Professional Speaker Series, a series of inspiring, entertaining and thought-provoking theatre discussions in the lobby of the historic San Gabriel Mission Playhouse and free for the community. SGVMT hopes to engage and inspire the community to become an active participant in the success of the arts in LA by exploring important topics vital to keeping the arts alive in our communities. We would be honored to have you as a guest as we explore the topics of diversity and equality in the arts. The 1st Speaker Series topic will be entitled “Finding Your Voice as an Artist in a Multicultural Society”. The panel will explore what is happening in the LA theatre community around the issue of diversity in show programming, discuss ways this is being achieved through organizations or shows they are involved with, touch on ways the community can be part of the greater conversation, and give insights for educators on how they can help young artists discover their own authentic voice. The discussion will be made available via podcast to reach more members of the community especially younger members and have a Facebook Live to make the conversation accessible and free to as many people as possible. The purpose of the Broadway Locker is to cultivate diversity and equality in the arts by empowering, inspiring and educating students on how to take control of their careers. Our philosophy is simple: Vision=Visibility=Success. Your participation in the launch of this important speaker series will help spread awareness in the arts, highlight significant challenges facing the theatre today and engage the public in being part of the solutions to overcoming those challenges. Through the Broadway Locker we seek to impact educators by providing them with tools to take back to the classroom in order to empower young minds to be part of the solution in keeping the arts alive for future generations! We hope you will be able to join us on October 23, 2017. The evening will start at 6pm with a light reception and live music, followed by the speaker pane from 6:30-7:30pm. The historic San Gabriel Mission Playhouse is located at 320 S. Mission Drive, San Gabriel, CA 91776. Arts advocacy starts with us, and we are looking to inspire every individual in Los Angeles to ask themselves – How do I “Art” LA?

Thank you for considering to be a part of this important conversation.
